Isn't it common for all of us to reach out for our mauve-toned and coral-hued lip colors as soon as summer hits? We put our dark, vampy colors to a rest and pick up brighter or softer colors as soon as the temperature starts to soar. But imagine wearing a berry lip when the sun is blazing outside! Pretty revolutionary, huh?
As seen on the spring-summer 2017 runways, bold lips are on-trend. Make-up artist Pat McGrath treated a few models to a glossy berry-plumy lip at Maison Margiela.
The color has also been spotted on our very own Priyanka Chopra a number of times. She often sports a muted-berry lipstick that's softer than the vampy shade that we associate with fall.
According to celebrity makeup artist Daniel martin, "This color in particular adapts to the depth of your natural lip creating more of a bitten stain rather than the look of a lipstick. It gives the lips a hydrating appeal as well, which appears more structured."-as told to Instyle Magazine. His tip when picking a muted-berry color is to choose a shade that's three times deeper than your natural lip color. His favorite pick- Bobbi Brown Art Stick in Plum Noir.

Martin recommends to apply the lipstick straight from the tube or the wand or use the fingers to get a bitten stain and not go with too much precision since that will look overdone in the daylight. He also suggests to pair the lipstick with fresh, dewy skin and simple makeup with little mascara so that the lip is the focus of the look.

It's a beautiful berry-toned plum color with high shine. No shimmers. Cream finish. Will look great on all complexions. You can wear a sheer coat or build up it's pigmentation by layering. I am wearing a very sheer coat in the picture below.

LOTUS HERBALS ECOSTAY NOURISHING LIP GLOSS- G11 SPARKLING RUM
This lip gloss is pretty sheer. The texture is pretty good. Has very tiny shimmers that's not visible to the naked eye. Suitable for office or college. Medium pigmentation. Very similar to Lakme Absolute Plump and Shine Lip Gloss in Plum Shine.

L.A. GIRL GLAZED LIP PAINT- DARING
This is a medium pigmented liquid lip color with high shine. Blue-based color. No shimmers. Stains the lip. You can wear a sheer coat or layer it up. Suitable for all complexions, especially deeper complexions. This particular color has strong berry tones in it.

Now this color is pretty bold and vampy. If you are into bold lips then this color is for you. Even though I'm wearing just one layer of the color, you can layer it up as much as you desire to achieve a bold look. Great pigmentation. Non-shimmery. Will work across a variety of skin tones.

REVLON COLORSTAY MOISTURE STAIN LIP GLOSS- 005 PARISIAN PASSION
This is one of my favorite lip glosses. It has a gel-like texture glides on the lips very smoothly. The color is beautiful. It also has strong berry-tones to it. Will work across various skin tones.

Moving on from the glosses, we have matte lip colors. This liquid lipstick from the body shop is a deep wine color with hints of berry. Medium pigmentation. Long-lasting. The color will suit all complexions. You can wear this with a light hand or a heavy hand. I'm wearing just one coat.

Beautiful berry color. Blue-based. Non-shimmery. Creamy texture. Satiny finish. This color will suit light to medium complexions. This is not matte in spite of its name. Not very long-lasting. Stains the lip. Very safe color, not too bold.

LAKME ABSOLUTE ARGAN OIL LIP COLOR- JUICY PLUM
A very pretty bold and dark plum color. This is one of my favorite lipstick. The lipstick gives a very bitten look to my lips. The texture is smooth and creamy and is very hydrating on the lips. I have sheered out the color with my fingers to give it the look of a stain.

L'OREAL PARIS COLOR RICHE MOIST MATTE LIPSTICK- ARABIAN NIGHT
This is a gorgeous dark burgundy color which looks very glamorous. The color has strong berry and plum tones to it. Very pigmented and long-lasting. If worn with a heavy hand, it looks very gothic.

I have worn all of the lip colors with a very light hand and sheered them out with my finger as suggested my Martin, so that it doesn't look over-the-top. I have paired them with fresh skin and a little mascara so that its wearable in the day time.
I really like this new trend of wearing berry colors in the summer and breaking ground rules. After all, there are no rules when it comes to makeup.
